BATTERIES - Environmental damage 

         
 Yes, mining of materials for batteries is damaging.  However, soon, there will be the recycling of existing batteries (cell phones and car batteries), and the cost of the recycling is a faction of the mining cost.  Good business sense will drive the recycling and the mining of materials will no longer be required.
